Forty-eight patriarch and Soon-to-be patriarchs gathers in the wooded glen of Sharon Park on August 7, 2010. The day was clear and warm as the brothers gathered before noon for a day of fellowship and fun.
A Special Session of the Grand Encampment was called at 11 am for the purpose of Installing into office Senior Grand Warden Scott Shaw, who was unable to attend the Grand Encampment Session to be installed. Also Two Past Chief Patriarchs David Boyd from Charleston and Harold Messer were given the Grand Encampment Degree, and three District Deputy Grand Patriarchs were commissioned.
It was High Noon, Grand Patriarch Mike Carney called the faithful together and announced those fateful words, "Let's Eat." Loading up on Hotdogs, hamburgers and white beans and cornbread, the patriarchs then settled into the work of conferring the three degrees on the five new patriarchs.
The going got tough as smells from outside crept into the building. Mike and Rex Deweese were busy preparing a meal of fish, corn on the cob and french fries. But among those smells was something great, Dean Parkins of Charleston was busy preparing his famous cobblers, on coals, in dutch ovens the he has done them for 44 years. Peach, blackberry/blueberry mix, strawberry, apple, cherry, blueberry, Many of the members lined up for the cobblers first, to insure they got a piece ( in years past the late lost out).
As we bid each others a fond adios, our belly's full, and our minds full of fond memories, we returned to our lodges with stories and pictures to tell.
